Making a Table to Play Table Tennis

Many years ago, the Victorian elite who invented this game played this game on a table of any length. The people used a pile of books as a net, paddles that were lids of cigar boxes and a ball of yarn, which was a very lightweight as the ball.

As the sport took shape and became more popular, changes had to be made. This included the rules for the game and the equipment that will be utilized. One of the things that took shape later on was the table for ping-pong.

This had to be rectangular in shape measuring 9 feet in length and 5 feet in width. This is usually made of Masonite timber or any other type of wood that has a low friction coating. The center should be able to hold a net creating a border where both players will exchange volleys.

Though the paddles are much lighter and the celluloid ball is much bigger, this is how amateurs and professionals play it today.

People who want to practice this game privately instead of the youth center or in school should probably get one of these for the home. If the player has a billiard table at home, buying the surface for the table tennis can be placed over it. This will cost $130, which can be taken off after the person is done practicing.

If people are not happy with the top and want the frame and everything that comes with it, the person can try getting this in a sporting goods store or in the Internet. The average price for one of these is $285 and up. This does not include yet shipping and tax.

The nice thing about this table is that it is collapsible. The individual can unlock the hinge in the center then just roll it to one end of the room if no one is playing.

If the individual finds this too expensive, there is always the possibility of finding this in a thrift shop or in a garage sale. Since this is quite rare, those that are good in carpentry can probably make it.

The first thing that the person will have to do is buy the wood. Since the player is already aware of the specs, the right number of lumber can be ordered then assembled at home.

Work can be done faster if this is done in a group. One member can cut it while the person holds the other end. When all the pieces are ready, this can be nailed down. Once everything is secure, all the individual has to do is paint it.

This can be done using a paintbrush or using spray paint. This should be done evenly so the ball will not fall off making it unfair for one player when a game is being played. The finishing touches will be putting on the boundaries on the side and the table will be ready.

It will be a good idea to put wheels on the feet so it can be moved when it is not being used. This should have an antilock system so that this will not move during a game.

People who love to play table tennis and don’t have time to practice elsewhere have two choices so this can be done at home. First, to buy it which might be expensive. The other will be to make it as long as the right measurements are made.
