Ping Pong and Table Tennis: What's the difference

Malcolm is an exchange student from the United States. For the next semester, this person will be learning about physics from instructors at the Chinese University. This is the first that this individual will buy miles away from home far away from friends and family.

It is a good thing that Malcolm was a very sociable person. The classmates liked this student’s attitude and decided to invite this individual to the recreation area located in the basement of the building.

The recreation room had a few billiard tables, darts, pinball machines and some table tennis tables. Having seen this, Malcolm went there and wanted to play with the other guys.

The classmates were surprised at how Malcolm was doing. After winning two sets straight, someone asked why this person was very good. It just so happened that this individual was a former member of the varsity team in school.

Malcolm explained that in America and in other places, this game is called table tennis while those in China and other parts of Asia call it as Ping-Pong.

There really was no difference in the rules. Just the way the game is called. This is because the table in the recreation room was 9 feet by 5 feet, it had the lines in the proper places, the celluloid ball measured 40 millimeters and the paddle used was the same except for the brand printed on it.

Ping-pong as the Chinese call it is a very popular sport in China. There are tournaments held regularly on the collegiate and open level. Some alumni from the university served in the national team.

The Chinese have in fact always ranked in the top 10 in any international competition. Some people call this the national sport in China because there were many students who were into this game.

Malcolm played using the shake hand method. Those in China used the pen method, which is very similar to holding a pen. This person tried to learn it but found it to be difficult. Perhaps because this individual was used to the shake hand style so it was best to stick with it and compete against the others.

There was a competition among the other universities, which Malcolm was allowed to join. Playing here made this person realize that there were better players here than there was back home.

The different styles of drives were studied so this can also be used against other players in other matches and when Malcolm gets home. Time flew by so fast and the semester ended which meant it was time to go home.

Malcolm thanked the many friends this person had met in the hopes of seeing these people again in the future.

Table tennis is one game that is played all over the world. The Chinese may call it ping-pong and the Americans and Europeans may know it as table tennis. Regardless of the name, players understand what to do during a tournament.

Each side will do its best to try and outsmart the other to be able to win the event and bring home the gold. These athletes regardless of nationality practice and work hard in order to become the best. This is the reason Malcolm tried out for the varsity team the following semester.
